Fotona’s NightLase® is the latest treatment for the reduction of snoring and sleep apnea. NightLase® is a non-invasive, in-office procedure with no preparation or downtime required.
Millions of people suffer from snoring, either on a daily of intermittent basis. It affects both men and women, and may begin or worsen as we age. It can disrupt both the your own and your bed-partner’s sleep. Snoring can lead to fragmented and poor sleep quality, which can affect your health and day to day activities. You may find yourself feeling tired and sleepy during the day, which can affect your concentration.
What causes snoring?
Snoring occurs when air is unable to move freely through your nose and mouth during sleep. As we age, our throat muscles being to relax, which in turn leads to the narrowing of the mouth and airways. The soft palate and uvula begin to vibrate, and these vibrations lead to the characteristic sound of snoring. The finer your airway becomes, the greater the vibration and the louder the snoring.
How does the NightLase® treatment work?
NightLase® uses an Er:Yag laser to heat the tissues of the airway, causing a tightening effect of the oral mucosa tissue, helping to keep the airway open. This laser uses a specific wavelength, painless and gentle enough to be used inside of the mouth, however provides effective heating and most patients see a reduction in their snoring after the first treatment.
It is a simple, quick, in-office procedure, performed by a nurse, and there is no downtime. This painless procedure is repeated 3 times, 4-6 weeks apart. Once completed, the final result of the treatment has been shown to last up to a year. Afterwards, additional treatments may be required to maintain the result.
There have been many studies showing that NightLase using the Er:Yag laser is an effective treatment to decrease snoring and improves patient’s sleep, with no adverse side-effects.
