High success rate- No downtinme - No blood tests required
Onychomycosis is the infection of the nail.
Its onset is slow and can spread from toenail to toenail. It is often associated with Athlete's foot. It can start with an injury to the nail. The fungus likes to live in a warm, moist environment such as showers , swimming pools, gyms and old shoes.
It is more common in males than in females, in diabetics, patients with peripheral vascular disease and in people with poor hygiene. It looks like a brittle, thickened nail, distorted in shape with lack of colour and luster.
Until recently, traditional therapies has been with either antifungal cream, nail lacquers and/or oral medication. With oral antifungal, the success rate is about 50%, however this produces a high liver stress and requires regular blood tests. With nail lacquers, success rate is about 10% and requires 1 year of twice a day applications.
With the laser, there is a 70-90% success rate with 1-3 treatments. There is no downtime and no blood tests are required.
